Mother Dairy Fruit & Vegetable Pvt. Ltd. has introduced India’s first naturally degradable milk pouch for its cow milk variant in Delhi NCR, with rollout scheduled from 5 June 2026, coinciding with World Environment Day.
The company said the pouch is designed to degrade in soil after disposal. According to the information released, the material transforms into bioavailable wax and is then broken down by microbes naturally present in soil into natural elements. The company has said the format is intended to leave no plastic residue behind.
The launch was unveiled by Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board and Mother Dairy, in the presence of Jayatheertha Chary, Managing Director, Mother Dairy.
The development is being positioned as a packaging innovation for India’s dairy sector, where flexible milk pouches are used in large volumes for daily distribution. Mother Dairy said the new pack has been designed so that consumers do not need to change how they store, handle or dispose of the pouch. The company also said the packaging will not affect the quality or taste of the milk.
The initial rollout will cover Mother Dairy’s cow milk variant in Delhi NCR. The supplied information states that the product will carry no additional cost to consumers. It also notes that the development followed four years of research.
For packaging converters and dairy brands, the project is relevant because it addresses the challenge of reducing plastic waste while maintaining the convenience and operational familiarity of pouch-based milk distribution. The format also shows how material innovation is being applied to high-frequency food packaging categories, where performance, product protection, affordability and consumer handling remain important considerations.
The company has not indicated immediate wider rollout details beyond the Delhi NCR cow milk launch or the technical composition of the pouch material.
